Our role as mommas are unique. Unless someone is in

your shoes and LISTENING - they just may not get it.

My role ensures that you are heard and your child's interests and needs are honored.

It's my program to serve you and your child. It's where I write a learning plan based on your child's needs and recommend the services and activities to support them in reaching specific goals that we create together.

Our role is WILD, and I wish I had someone to support me and my daughter in this way.

THIS is at the heart of my passion for literacy. It's my way of serving children and families to demystify the art of reading and writing. It IS possible for EVERY child to learn to read - we just need to pay closer attention to them.

It's the most broken system in our country today and we are vessels within it trying to find our way and love each child along the way.

Assessment

of Skills

This 60-90 minute session includes assessments to determine what skills your child knows and what they need.

From there, I’ll write up the assessment results with support/learning recommendations.

In addition to the assessment report, I create a learning plan with lesson guidance to support you in teaching your child. I curate resources so you can support them with their literacy development at home and when out and about.

Support

After the assessment, you have the option to have me personally teach your child (either in person and/or virtually, depending on their age). You'll get regular updates with each session on the skills your child is working on and how you can support at home.

my mission

why I do what I do

Y'all, can I be real with you? In all honesty, I do this because I want our children to have the best opportunity for an excellent education!

So my mission is to equip parents in the US to give students the best education possible. Even though the system around us is flawed, I want to provide you with a space to get the support that you deserve so that you can show up to serve your child to the best of your ability. There's no more feeling like you don't know how to catch your breath with their learning anymore! You'll be equipped with the tools to make it happen.

How did you get to where you are now?

Hi, I'm Myrna - a Managing Director of Literacy Strategy. Before I was that, I was a teacher turned literacy coach. I taught for 3.5 years and then I was a literacy coach for 3.5 years. After having my daughter and owning that I needed to work closer to home, I returned to the classroom in a new district. Returning to the classroom started off adventurous and then it hit me during the second semester that I was not operating in alignment with my calling. WAY more on that later. That year I decided to leave the classroom because I was called to support teachers as they supported students - and there wasn't space for me to do that in the building where I worked. I was devastated. I LOVED my principal and colleagues, but I had to pursue my heart and leave space for my dreams to become a reality. I quit. A week later, Covid shut schools down.

The plan was to find a coaching position, but that season became a hot mess. There was no trying to find another job. Fortunately, I was already working as a coach, supporting clients in their health journey. Then a stay-at-home mom due to Covid and working from home, I focused on coaching. In a matter of months, my coaching business quantum leaped and I was working full time as a coach.

But I missed working with students. I returned to the school district part-time, and within a couple months was given the opportunity to work as a Director of Literacy. It has been a dream come true.

However, that position took me away from the kiddos. I continued to coach moms, supporting them in their journey when I realized a need parents had in supporting their child with literacy skills.

That's when I decided to focus on creating this option to support parents in supporting their child. It allowed me to work closely with families in support literacy goals.

What local areas do you serve?

I serve families in Snellville, Loganville, Grayson, and parts of Lawrenceville. If you have a child between the age 3-8 struggling with their reading, I can help! Depending on the desired service, I can support your child beyond these cities. Reach out to me at hello@journeywithmyrna.com.

Where does the tutoring happen?

My favorite place to work with students is the library! It's FILLED with books and your child will build many skills by choosing books and checking in/out weekly.
